Peri-Operative Theatre Technology

PERI-OPERATIVE THEATRE TECHNOLOGY

Operation Theatre Technicians are allied healthcare professionals. Their duties include assisting in surgery, preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, ensuring proper post-surgical cleaning, supporting the surgeon during procedures and maintaining anesthesia equipment.

The course in theatre technology program focuses on actual operating room procedures. Students also learn through lab studies and internships in hospital operating rooms.

A theatre technologist practices sterile procedures and manages tools in the operating room. Surgical assistants need experience with those tasks in order to safely manipulate patients’ tissues during surgery. Registered surgical technologist experience and certification are often mandatory for surgical assisting students.
