Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid, orthoboric acid and acidum boricum, is a weak, tribasic Lewis acid of boron, which is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber, or precursor to other chemical compounds.
